Best marine collagen: a 98% price gap for the same ingredient

In summary

The same collagen, under the same Peptan label and in the same 500 g size, sells for 39.90 EUR at one brand and 78.95 EUR at another: a 98% gap for an identical ingredient, or 285 EUR over a year at 10 g a day. The useful dose is 5 g for skin and 10 g for joints. The only real difference between the products is the ingredient list. Since 23/10/2026, Nutripure does even better: 74.92 EUR a kilo in the 1.2 kg pot, under the Naticol label.

The short answer

The same collagen, under the same patented label and in the same 500 g size, sells for 39.90 EUR at one brand and 78.95 EUR at another: a 98% gap for an identical ingredient. Over a year-long course at 10 g a day, that is 285 EUR. Collagen is the comparison where the choice of brand weighs the most, and where it is least justified.

The label is the same, the price is not

Peptan® is a marine collagen hydrolysate produced by Rousselot. When two brands display it, they sell the same ingredient, from the same supplier, with the same molecular weight: below 2,000 daltons in both cases. There is nothing to weigh up on quality: what remains is price.

Prices recorded on 24/09/2026 from the official pages, on 23/10/2026 for Nutripure (neutral version), and on 27/10/2026 for Novoma (unflavoured version). The price per kilo applies to the product as sold: the Nutri&Co product also contains acacia gum, flavourings and vitamin C, so its share of pure collagen is below 100%. It is not published, so we cannot correct for it. The Novoma powder also contains vitamin C (150 mg per 10 g of collagen), which puts its share of collagen very slightly below 100%.

With strictly identical size and label (Peptan®, 500 g), the gap is 98%. It is the biggest gap we have recorded on a supplement, and no documented difference between the products explains it.

Size matters too, as always: at Nutrimuscle, the 1.2 kg pot comes down to 133.29 EUR a kilo against 174.75 EUR for the 200 g one, which is 24% less. But even its best size stays 67% above Dynveo’s price.

Update of 23/10/2026: Nutripure takes the lead. Its Naticol marine collagen, hydrolysed to 2,000 daltons according to its page, costs 74.92 EUR a kilo in the 1.2 kg pot and 62.48 EUR in the 4 kg tub, below Dynveo’s 79.80 EUR. The tub represents more than a year’s course at 10 g a day: for a first purchase, the 1.2 kg pot is the sensible size, and it is still the cheapest in the table. Its 310 g pouch, on the other hand, climbs back to 109.35 EUR a kilo.

Update of 27/10/2026: Novoma added. Its Naticol powder in a 284 g pot, with 150 mg of vitamin C per 10 g serving, works out at 115.85 EUR a kilo, between Nutripure’s 310 g pouch and Nutrimuscle’s 1.2 kg pot.

What dose, and for what

The product pages converge on similar benchmarks, which is reassuring: 5 g a day for a skin goal, 10 g a day for joints. Nutri&Co recommends 6 g. These doses match what the literature usually explores: in the order of 5 to 15 g for skin, and from lower doses for joints.

The consequence for your budget is direct: at 5 g a day, the cheapest product works out at 0.40 EUR a day, or 146 EUR a year. At 10 g and the highest price in the table, it rises to 638 EUR. The same goal, four times the price.

Where a brand can set itself apart

The ingredient list. This is the only real difference in the table. Dynveo states “100% marine collagen powder”, Nutripure a “100% pure” collagen in its neutral version. Nutrimuscle does too in its plain version; its flavoured versions add flavourings, citric acid, concentrated juice and steviol glycosides. Nutri&Co adds acacia gum, flavourings, citric acid and vitamin C, the latter not being a flaw, since vitamin C takes part in collagen synthesis. Novoma does the same, with 150 mg of vitamin C per 10 g serving, and adds a natural flavouring in its four flavoured versions.

The type of collagen. Peptan® and Naticol® are type I, the main type in skin. Nutri&Co combines Cartidyss®, presented as type II, the type found in cartilage. The combination is coherent on paper; its clinical advantage over type I alone is not established in a comparable way.

Fishing certifications. Both Peptan® products highlight MSC certification and French manufacture. The Novoma powder highlights Friend of the Sea certification and French manufacture. It is a legitimate sourcing criterion, with no nutritional effect.

One precaution, only one

Collagen is well tolerated at the usual doses. The documented reservation concerns high doses: the hydroxyproline it provides can increase urinary oxalate, which calls for caution in people prone to kidney stones, above 10 g a day. Outside that case, no notable side effect is reported in healthy people.

A useful reminder: collagen is a protein, and a protein of mediocre quality in terms of essential amino acids. It does not replace the protein intake from your plate: see our whey comparison and our guide to how the body uses protein.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best marine collagen?

The one that costs the least per kilo for an equivalent label. On the records of 24/09/2026, Dynveo’s Peptan collagen comes out at 79.80 EUR a kilo against 157.90 EUR for the same Peptan in the same size at a competitor. With an identical ingredient quality, the gap is 98%. Update of 23/10/2026: Nutripure’s Naticol collagen does better, at 74.92 EUR a kilo in the 1.2 kg pot and 62.48 EUR in the 4 kg tub.

Peptan, Naticol: what is the difference?

They are two type I marine collagen hydrolysates from two different suppliers, with peptides of comparable molecular weight. No public data allows them to be ranked. The label mainly guarantees traceability and consistency of the process.

What dose of collagen a day?

The product pages converge: about 5 g a day for a skin goal, 10 g for joints. Going up to 15 or 20 g has no demonstrated benefit, and above 10 g caution is needed if you have a history of kidney stones.

Are collagen capsules as good as the powder?

No, for an arithmetic reason: the useful dose is 5 to 10 g a day, which is about ten capsules. The container would cost more than the contents. Marine collagen is the textbook example of a supplement to buy as a powder.

Does collagen replace protein intake?

No. It is a protein low in essential amino acids: it counts towards the total but does not cover your needs. See our whey comparison and our guide to how the body uses protein.

Are there side effects?

Few. The documented reservation concerns hydroxyproline, which can increase urinary oxalate: caution above 10 g a day in people prone to kidney stones. In healthy people, at the usual doses, no notable side effect is reported.
