Tips
Salt is the real point of attention. 2.86 g per 100 g: an 80 g serving provides nearly 2.3 g of salt, half the daily guideline. This is what sets smoked salmon apart from fresh salmon, far more than the calories.
An excellent source of omega-3 and vitamin D. 1.67 g of omega-3 and 5.45 µg of vitamin D per 100 g place smoked salmon among the best sources in the fish family, on a par with fresh salmon.
Pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. Cold smoking does not cook the fish: the risk of listeriosis means it should be avoided, like all uncooked smoked seafood.
Pregnant? Cold smoked salmon is not recommended during pregnancy; cooked in a hot dish, it is allowed. See our guide on smoked salmon during pregnancy.
