Tips

What makes up its calories. 19.9 g of fat per 100 g, two thirds of its energy: hummus is not light, but its fat is of good quality and it keeps you full for a long time thanks to the fibre and protein combination.

A realistic portion. Two tablespoons, about 30 g, provide nearly 80 kcal. It is a starter or a side, not a main dish.

Homemade, you control everything. The shop-bought version is often oilier and saltier. Made at home, you measure the oil and keep the essentials: chickpeas, tahini, lemon.

Pregnant? Hummus is allowed during pregnancy, to be eaten soon after opening. See our guide on hummus during pregnancy.
