Tips
47.2 kcal: the lowest in calories of the apples in this selection. The gap with a Pink Lady at 57.3 kcal amounts to about fifteen kilocalories on a whole apple. Marginal, but real.
It is as good raw as cooked. That is its special quality: its fine flesh holds up well enough for a tart while still being pleasant to bite into. Few varieties do both properly.
Chantecler and Belchard are the same fruit. Chantecler is the name of the variety, Belchard the trade brand. The label sometimes carries both, which causes confusion.
Its season runs from November to May. It is a true winter apple, which naturally keeps well without intensive preservation treatment.
2.85 mg of vitamin C. A decent score for an apple, on a level with the best-supplied varieties in this batch.
