Tips
It is almost twice as dense as a round tomato. It has 31.8 kcal against 17.5 for a standard tomato, and 4.8 g of sugars against 3 g. Nothing to worry about, but a bowl of cherry tomatoes is not the equivalent of a bowl of tomatoes.
More vitamin C and beta-carotene too. It has 21.8 mg against 19.9 mg, and 1,360 µg of beta-carotene against 807. Concentration works both ways.
Lycopene is released by cooking. Roasted for fifteen minutes in the oven, cherry tomatoes make their lycopene much more available, and a drizzle of olive oil improves absorption further.
Never put them in the fridge. Below 12 °C, the aromas break down irreversibly and the flesh turns mealy. This applies to all tomatoes, and is particularly visible with cherry tomatoes.
They get people eating vegetables. With drinks or in a lunch box, they are easy to snack on: a practical argument that is worth as much as the figures.
