A sunny mango smoothie bowl, thick and creamy, to eat with a spoon and top with fruit, granola and seeds. More filling than a classic smoothie thanks to its thick texture and toppings, it is a vitamin-packed, photogenic breakfast.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Blend the mango, frozen banana and yoghurt until thick (add very little liquid).
  2. Pour into a bowl.
  3. Top with granola, red berries and chia seeds.
  4. Enjoy straight away with a spoon.

Nutritional benefits

A smoothie bowl is more useful than a drinkable smoothie: its thick texture forces you to eat it slowly, which improves fullness, and the toppings (granola, seeds, fruit) add fibre, healthy fats and crunch. Mango and red berries bring vitamin C and antioxidants, banana provides potassium, and yoghurt supplies protein and calcium. A complete, colourful breakfast that children love.

Variations and substitutions

  • Dairy-free: plant-based yoghurt.
  • More protein: a scoop of protein powder or skyr.
  • Other bases: red berries, dragon fruit, acai.
  • Toppings: desiccated coconut, peanut butter, fresh fruit.

Storage and make-ahead

The smoothie bowl is best eaten just made for the texture and the vitamins. You can prepare bags of frozen fruit (mango and banana) ready to blend in the morning. Add the toppings at the last moment to keep the crunch.

💡 Good to know

The secret to a thick bowl you can eat with a spoon: use frozen fruit and very little liquid. If it is too thick to blend, add the liquid a spoonful at a time.
