Nutritional benefits

This crumble swaps white flour and butter for oats, ground almonds and a little coconut oil, gaining fibre, plant protein and healthy fats. Sugar is reduced thanks to the maple syrup and the natural sweetness of the pears, which are rich in fibre (pectin). The result is a warm, indulgent dessert that is far more filling and balanced than a traditional crumble.

Variations and substitutions

  • With apples, red berries or pear and chocolate.
  • Nut-free: replace the ground almonds with more oats.
  • Vegan: it already is (coconut oil).
  • More protein: add seeds or a scoop of protein powder.

Storage and make-ahead

This crumble keeps for 3 days in the fridge and is reheated in the oven to bring back the crunch. Delicious warm with plain yoghurt or banana nice cream for a complete dessert.

💡 Good to know

Choose very ripe, fragrant pears: they are enough to sweeten the dessert. Do not pack the crumble mixture down too much so that it stays crunchy.
