Skyr
Skyr is an Icelandic dairy product halfway between yoghurt and fromage blanc, strained for a thick, creamy texture. Its distinguishing feature is a high protein content, around 10 g per 100 g, for very little fat and few calories. It can be enjoyed plain, sweetened or in cooking.

Tips
Skyr is delicious at breakfast or as a snack, with fruit and a little homemade granola, or in a parfait. In cooking, it replaces cream in sauces and goes into high-protein recipes such as protein bread.
- Nutrition values: from 8.7 to 11 g of protein per 100 g depending on the brand, for around 0.5 g of fat: that is more than twice the protein of plain yoghurt.
- For athletes: ideal as a recovery snack or in the evening, for a protein boost without excess calories.
Choose plain skyr rather than sweetened flavoured versions. Comparable to Greek yoghurt but higher in protein and leaner, it has its place in the Dairy products family.

Skyr is listed neither in the Anses Ciqual table nor in the USDA database. The values on this page are the median of the labels of 9 plain skyrs sold in France, taken from Open Food Facts on 26 September 2026: Arla, Delisse, Laiterie de Kerguillet, Milbona, Milfina, Pâturages, Siggi’s, Yoplait and one own-brand skyr. Depending on the brand, a plain skyr provides from 52 to 64 kcal and from 8.7 to 11 g of protein per 100 g.
