Ingredients
Method
- Cook the oats in the milk for 5 minutes.
- Add the diced apple and the cinnamon.
- Continue for 3 minutes until the apple is soft.
- Serve with chopped walnuts.
Nutritional benefits
Rolled oats are rich in filling soluble fibre (beta-glucans) and slow-release carbohydrate, which helps you avoid the mid-morning slump. The apple sweetens naturally and the cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar. A complete, warm breakfast with no added sugar, ideal if you are watching your weight.
Variations and substitutions
- Use plant-based milk for a vegan version.
- Use pear or banana.
- Stir in almond or peanut butter.
- Add raisins or cranberries.
Storage and preparing ahead
Keeps for 3 days in the fridge; reheat with a little milk. Also works cold as overnight oats.
💡 Good to know
Add the apple during cooking: it softens and flavours the whole porridge without any need for sugar.
