A mild, fruity green smoothie that slips spinach in unnoticed, even for children: the mango and banana completely hide the taste of the vegetables. Rich in vitamins, fibre and antioxidants, it is a vitamin-packed breakfast or snack ready in 2 minutes in the blender. A great way to add a portion of greens to the day.

Nutritional benefits

This smoothie is a concentrate of protective micronutrients: spinach provides folate, iron, magnesium and antioxidants, mango brings vitamin C and beta-carotene, and banana gives potassium and a natural sugar for energy. Together they supply fibre and anti-inflammatory compounds in a drink that is naturally sweet with no added sugar. It is also a clever way to get children to eat green vegetables, as the fruit hides the taste.

Variations and substitutions

  • Higher in protein: add a scoop of protein powder or some Greek yoghurt.
  • Lactose-free: use a plant-based drink (almond, oat or coconut).
  • Creamier: add half an avocado.
  • Other fruit: pineapple, kiwi or berries instead of mango.

Storage and making ahead

A smoothie is best drunk straight after making it, to get the most from the vitamins. You can freeze bags of fruit and spinach, ready to blend in the morning with the liquid.

💡 Good to know

Start with a single handful of spinach if you are introducing children to green smoothies, then increase gradually: the taste stays hidden by the mango and banana.
