Nutritional benefits

Chicken provides plenty of lean protein for few calories, ideal if you are watching your weight (especially without the skin). The piri-piri sauce (chilli, garlic, lemon) adds intense flavour with little fat. A juicy Portuguese dish full of character, naturally gluten-free and lactose-free, to serve with a salad.

Variations and substitutions

  • On the barbecue for a grilled flavour.
  • Hotter or milder depending on the chillies.
  • With prawns (piri-piri king prawns).
  • With rice or a salad.

Storage and making ahead

Marinated chicken keeps for 2 days; cooked chicken keeps for 3 days.

💡 Good to know

Marinating for at least 1 hour infuses the chicken with the piri-piri sauce: the longer, the tastier.
