Ingredients
Method
- Make the homemade bolognese sauce (or reheat a portion).
- Cook the spaghetti al dente in a large pan of salted water.
- Drain and mix with (or top with) the sauce.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan and basil.
Nutritional benefits
A complete, balanced dish when made at home: complex carbohydrates from the pasta (even better if wholewheat), protein from the meat, antioxidants from the tomato sauce. Aim for a generous portion of vegetable-rich sauce and a sensible portion of pasta.
Variations and substitutions
- With wholewheat spaghetti (more fibre).
- Vegetarian bolognese sauce with lentils.
- With spiralised courgette (half pasta, half veg).
- Baked in the oven with a cheese topping.
Storage and making ahead
The sauce keeps for 4 days; cook the pasta fresh each time. The whole dish reheats well.
💡 Good to know
Keep a little of the pasta cooking water: a splash added to the sauce binds it and helps it coat the spaghetti.
