Ingredients
Method
- Core the apples.
- Fill them with chopped walnuts, raisins and cinnamon.
- Place them in a dish with a little water in the bottom.
- Bake for 35 minutes at 180 °C.
Nutritional benefits
Baked apple is rich in fibre (notably pectin) and becomes naturally sweet as it cooks, so there is no need to add sugar. Cinnamon adds flavour and is thought to help regulate blood sugar, while walnuts provide good fats. A comforting, light and healthy dessert.
Variations and substitutions
- With pears.
- With almonds or hazelnuts.
- With a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
- Served warm with plain yoghurt.
Storage and making ahead
Keep for 3 days in the fridge and can be reheated. Delicious warm or cold.
💡 Good to know
Choose apples that hold their shape when baked (such as Braeburn or Cox): they turn soft and tender without collapsing.
