A creamy, intense chocolate mousse… made with avocado! Surprising but astonishing: the avocado, completely masked by the cocoa, gives a creamy texture with no cream or eggs. Vegan, free of refined sugar and ready in 5 minutes in a blender, it is the healthy chocolate dessert that nobody can guess.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Halve the avocados and scoop out the flesh.
  2. Put the avocado, cocoa, maple syrup, vanilla and plant-based drink in a blender.
  3. Blend until perfectly smooth, adjusting the liquid for the texture.
  4. Divide between small glasses and chill for 1 hour before serving.

Nutritional benefits

This mousse replaces the cream, butter and eggs of classic mousses with avocado, which provides heart-friendly monounsaturated fats, fibre and vitamin E, all with no noticeable taste once combined with the cocoa. Unsweetened cocoa adds antioxidants (flavonoids) and magnesium, and maple syrup sweetens naturally in a small amount. The result: a chocolate dessert rich in good nutrients, vegan, dairy-free and free of refined sugar.

Variations and substitutions

  • With banana: replace some of the syrup with a mashed banana.
  • More intense: add a little melted dark chocolate.
  • Peanut butter: one spoonful for a praline flavour.
  • Toppings: red berries, chopped hazelnuts, chocolate shavings.

Storage and making ahead

This mousse keeps for 2 days in the fridge in covered glasses. As it contains avocado, eat it quickly and add a squeeze of lemon when blending to preserve the colour. Make it the same day or the day before.

💡 Good to know

Choose very ripe, soft avocados for a perfectly smooth texture, and a good-quality cocoa: it is what completely masks the taste of the avocado. Nobody will guess the secret ingredient.
