Ingredients
Method
- Mash the avocados with a fork (keep some texture).
- Add the lime juice straight away.
- Stir in the diced tomato and onion, and the coriander.
- Season with salt and chilli, and serve chilled.
Nutritional benefits
Avocado is rich in monounsaturated fats, which are good for the heart, as well as fibre and potassium. The lime and vegetables add freshness and vitamin C. Low in carbohydrate, guacamole is a healthy, filling dip, far better than shop-bought sauces, and perfect with raw vegetables.
Variations and substitutions
- Spicier: more chilli or jalapeños.
- With mango for a touch of sweetness.
- With garlic.
- Spread on wholemeal bread.
Storage and making ahead
Eat quickly, as avocado goes brown. Leaving the stone in and adding lime slows down oxidation.
💡 Good to know
Add the lime juice as soon as the avocados are mashed: its acidity stops the guacamole from browning.
